Mattarella to Macron: "EU competitiveness is our responsibility."

"As you wrote, Mr. President, in the warm message you sent me on June 2nd on the occasion of the Italian Republic Day, France and Italy share a 'unique relationship.' They are vital allies, sharing the same cultural roots and sharing many key interests." Thus wrote the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on the occasion of the French National Day on July 14th.

"The Quirinale Treaty remains a privileged instrument of bilateral cooperation, whose implementation is a priority for both Paris and Rome. Structured collaboration between trusted partners is essential to address the current international context, marked by complex challenges and growing tensions." Mattarella emphasized that the two countries are "called to jointly maintain a leading role on the world stage, starting with the commitment to effectively counter the current and most urgent threats to peace."

Italy and France are called "to jointly maintain a leading role on the world stage, starting with the commitment to effectively counter the current and most urgent threats to peace." "The stability and security, as well as the prosperity and competitiveness of our continent, depend on the joint sharing of these responsibilities. The integration process has contributed greatly—and must continue to contribute—to the establishment of a rules-based, peaceful, and interdependent multilateral order."
